The Centro Nefrológico das Beiras, part of the Unidade Local de Saúde de Castelo Branco (ULSCB), has received accreditation from the Ordem dos Enfermeiros recognising its suitability for nursing education in a clinical setting.
The professional body’s public register independently lists the Nefrologia service at Hospital Amato Lusitano with active accreditation dated 4 October 2026. Its recognised training purposes include undergraduate nursing and specialist nursing care for people in a critical condition.
Capacity for undergraduate and specialist training
According to Beira Baixa TV’s report of 9 October, the accreditation covers capacity for 10 undergraduate nursing students and three students undertaking specialist training in Enfermagem Médico-Cirúrgica.
The Ordem dos Enfermeiros’ guidance identifies nursing care for people in a critical condition as one of the areas within that specialty.
These figures describe training capacity. The professional body’s regulation defines this as the maximum number of students or specialist trainees a clinical setting can train with its available resources during a specified period.
The announcement does not identify the educational institutions involved or when placements will begin.
What the recognition means
The Ordem dos Enfermeiros explains that accreditation assesses whether a service has the conditions required to support nursing students and specialist trainees under its national assessment framework.
The process includes an application, an audit and an accreditation decision. It considers the clinical setting’s ability to provide training under appropriate quality and safety conditions.
The register places Castelo Branco’s Nefrologia service in the standard accreditation category at its initial stage. Under the national regulation, this category follows a progressive framework of requirements through to the fourth year.
For specialist training, the professional body’s guidance also requires relevant specialist nursing expertise and certified clinical supervision.
The new recognition establishes an accredited training setting within Castelo Branco’s health service, with relevance for students and nurses developing their professional skills in the region.
