The new health centre in Alcains, in the municipality of Castelo Branco, is scheduled to be inaugurated on 12 November 2026, according to the official event calendar of the Junta de Freguesia de Alcains.
Beira Baixa TV reported the announcement on 17 September. The inauguration will form part of the celebrations marking 55 years since Alcains was granted town status.
New premises for primary care
The project is located within part of the grounds of the former Escola Básica 2/3 José Sanches. Reconquista’s report of 29 May 2025 described a centre intended to modernise local primary care, using a reference population of 10,000 patients.
The design described in that report includes a single-storey building with clinical, administrative and technical areas, a sheltered entrance and parking for ambulances and people with reduced mobility.
Equipment procurement
Separate official records show preparations to equip the centre. A public tender published by Castelo Branco council in the Diário da República on 18 September 2026 includes a specific lot for IT equipment for the Centro de Saúde de Alcains, with a base price of €52,900 excluding VAT.
The tender also covers equipment for other council and healthcare facilities. Its publication records the procurement process, without establishing that the Alcains equipment has already been delivered.
Details still to be announced
The inauguration announcements do not specify opening hours, staffing, appointment arrangements or the date on which consultations will begin in the new premises.
For patients, the practical question is when their care will transfer to the new building. Residents should follow information from their health unit about appointment locations and arrangements for the move.
