Travelling between the Beira Interior and northern Portugal has become easier following the launch of a new FlixBus route connecting Covilhã directly with Viseu, Porto and Porto Airport.
The new service entered operation on 15 June and removes the need for passengers travelling from Covilhã to Porto to change buses along the way. The route also includes stops in Guarda and Albergaria-a-Velha, strengthening transport links between the Beira Interior and the Porto Metropolitan Area.
According to FlixBus, the service has been designed to improve mobility for residents, students and visitors travelling to and from the region.
Direct Connections to Porto and Porto Airport
One of the most significant advantages of the new route is the direct connection to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, one of Portugal's busiest international gateways.
Passengers can now travel directly between Covilhã and both Porto's Campanhã Intermodal Terminal and the airport without needing to transfer between services.
The route also provides direct links to Viseu, helping to improve connectivity between major cities in the interior while offering easier access to northern Portugal.
Journey times, schedules and fares vary depending on the service selected, with passengers able to check the latest information through the FlixBus website and mobile application.
Supporting Students and Tourism
FlixBus says the new connection was created in part to meet the needs of the University of Beira Interior (UBI) community, which includes more than 10,000 students.
Improved transport options are expected to benefit students travelling between the Beira Interior and northern Portugal, while also making it easier for visitors to reach the Serra da Estrela and surrounding areas.
The direct airport connection may prove particularly valuable for international visitors, students and residents travelling to and from the region.
